About

Background & Research Work

Havi Tran is currently a Ph.D. student at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She received her Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees in Mental Health Counseling at University of Florida in December 2019, along with a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies. Additionally, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at University of Florida in May 2017. Her field of focus has always been in mental health, and she's currently pursuing further education in the field through her doctorate.

Currently, Havi is studying Industrial-Organizational Psychology, where she focuses on understanding underlying psychological components and dynamics within the workplace. These can include personnel selection, worker efficiency, employee satisfaction, and more. Her research focuses on diversity in the workplace and how aspects like an employee's culture and identity may affect their mental health. This research combines both her clinical experience from her M.Ed. Mental Health program and her current Ph.D. I-O Psychology program.

Recipient of Florida International University's Presidential Fellowship grant. Funds aid in research efforts at Dr. Asia Eaton's Power, Women, and Relations Research Lab. Research focus is on social issues within the workplace, specifically the experiences of marginalized populations.

Counselor Specialist Intern, Counseling and Wellness Center at University of Florida

Provided counseling services to the college student population at University of Florida. Managed independent, full-time caseload by creating treatment plans, overseeing client progress, and connecting clients to community resources.

Clinical Counseling Practicum Student, University of Florida Health Springhill

January 2019 - July 2019

Provided counseling services to an array of medical mental health conditions, specializing in obsessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia-nervosa and binge eating disorder, major depressive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

Conducted informal interviews to assess the University of Florida undergraduate Asian American student population's level of readiness for addressing and discussing mental health. Directed workshop series focused on topics of interest based on community research.
